16w39a: A FIRST LOOK AT MINECRAFT 1.11

Screenshots: 73Timespan: 28 - 29 September 2016Version: 16w39a

Yes, yes, I know. 16w39a isn't the first snapshot for Minecraft 1.11 - it's the seventh overall. However, due to Jeb and the development crew wanting to wait until Minecon to reveal new features, those first few snapshots were only bugfixes, game rule changes, and other tweaks under the skin.

The new features were revealed, the Minecraft YouTubers worked themselves into the expected lather, and the first video I watched showing the new features is Logdotzip's effort - yes, I know, he is a bit full of himself, that's his usual style, deal with it. He covers all the points, and - unlike my regular favourite at this point, Mumbo Jumbo, he manages to get everything right.

1.11 is known as The Exploration Update. So I'm making this initial overview as I previously did for 1.9 and 1.10, and this time, "I'm going on an adventure!"

THE END - REVISITED

All in all it was a pleasant trip down memory lane to my first Minecraft projects, mixed in with the new bits and pieces that 1.11 will bring when it gets its full release. Things will change, I know - bugs will be fixed, two of them have been already, features will be tweaked. I've checked the wiki and the evil villagers don't respawn... at least they don't at the moment, but who knows what the near future might bring?

And there's one thing I never mentioned - the observer block, the new redstone feature that acts like a BUD switch all on its own. I'll leave it to the redstone experts to come up with some brilliant uses for it - some of which will almost certainly find their way into Sinclair's Foundry.
