17w06a: A FIRST LOOK AT MINECRAFT 1.12

And so we have our first snapshot of 2017, a week after Jeb said there wouldn't be one. A theme has, apparently, been decided for Minecraft 1.12 and if I had to hazard a guess I'd say it'll be "The Colourful Update", "The Artistic Update" or (best of all, if only they could use it without getting a lawsuit from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber) "The Amazing Technicolour Dream-Update". I'm sure it'll be something along those lines.
Early impressions are it won't be quite the enthralling update that 1.11 was (and 1.11.2 even more so with the effective addition of a jetpack!) but either way, it's a good job I built that art studio in the Sinclair's Foundry base, isn't it?

In a way I can see what Mojang are doing with the glazed terracotta - trying to add a bit of variety amongst the coloured blocks, much the same way as they did with the heavily patterned carpet that appears when placed on the back of a llama that 1.11 introduced. From here, I'd expect the texture of the concrete to change - it looks more like smooth plaster at the moment, rather than a lumpy aggregate that's full of huge stones. Still, if it stays the same until the final release, at least we've got a new set of coloured blocks that should make giant pixel art a whole lot brighter and a lot less woolly.
