POSTCARDS FROM FUNGUSLANDS IV: THE VILLAGE OF SVAMPSTAD

Screenshots: 22Timespan: February 2013 - June 2013Versions: 1.4.7 - 1.5.2

In the original Livejournal post, Fungusland IV was included with the rest of the three Funguslands, only one of which I ever took further. Fungusland I was never used much more once 1.5 had arrived and I'd sorted the problems with Rejectland, which returned to be my main concern once more.

However, I went back to Fungusland IV - with everything else on this map so impractically far away (as you'll see), I wondered if it was possible to obtain very much more than I already had at the end of the 1.4 cycle by building a village, from scratch, right there on the gigantic mushroom island? These screenshots were never publicly posted at the time, so what follows in the construction of the village of Svampstad is an extra bonus.

I planned Svampstad on a spreadsheet, moving all the buildings and plots around so I could cram everything required into as small a space as possible, preferably perfectly rectangular. All the regular village buildings would be included, and the efficient 9×9 crop gardens, as well as non-natural plots for pumpkins, melons and sugar cane, the latter of which was an excellent cash crop, given that I'd soon be surrounded by librarians who'd buy it off me.

THE VILLAGE OF SVAMPSTAD: FUNGUSLAND IV REVISITED IN 1.5

And that was that. I'd intended to go on even further with Fungusland IV - 1.6 brought us horses, so I'd certainly have extended the village to add a stable or two, even if that meant lots and lots of fruitless exploration throughout the plains that I'd need to generate from new. I'd even thought of building a second village on the small island to the south. But Rejectland dominated, so I never got round to any of it, until I had an idea with the world generation changing in 1.7. I made a version in MCEdit that deleted everything outside the immediate vicinity of the islands, then I took a boat ride in 1.6.4 around the islands so about 20 chunks of sea would be revealed around them. This version could then be loaded into 1.7 and I'd have a massive mushroom island surrounded by other really useful biomes - maybe some of the new ones? But oh no, it was not to be. The islands were surrounded by cold, barren ice plains for miles around, which made the map even less use than it had been before! So it was retired, never to be seen again until now.
