And so the first major project for this world was the one that shares the world's name. Sinclair's Foundry is there to provide the most important resource for any mass automation: iron. And while we're at it, we may as well automate the production of another metal as well, less useful for construction (at least in the initial phase) but more valuable to trade.

The basis of this huge construction is the old-school sink bowl design credited to the Zipkrowd. docm77 presented the faultless tutorial on how to build it but the design is JL2579's (or so I am led to believe). The video is dated July 2012 - that's way back in 1.2 - that's how long it's worked for and has resisted all Mojang's attempts to destroy it, only their horrifically misguided decision (that was hastily withdrawn after an extremely hostile reception) to force iron golems to drop iron only as a rare drop (i.e. they have to be killed manually) would have done so. Other than that, this is a robust and future-proof design.

I've mentioned most of what I need to say about the prototype of this build (as far back as 1.5.2 in a test world with a suitable seed) in the lengthy introduction to the world of Sinclair's Foundry and the concepts behind it, as well as highlighting advanced iron farm designs such as those Tango Tek came up with and the reasons why I decided against any of them.

This "old school" design has been optimised to have the maximum amount of spawning space per "village", is somewhere close to unbreakable, and makes more iron than I will ever need! No, really, it does; by the time this world had reached the ten-year mark (i.e. day 3652) I calculated it had produced just short of 98,000 ingots.

This farm has been updated: see Project 18: Fixing The Holes.
For the second update: see Project 36: Expanding The Foundry.
For the third update: see Project 47: Loose Ends.

Typical iron production rate, anywhere, any time: 139 ingots per hour
Typical gold production rate, nuggets per hour, in AFK area: 355 (easy), 661 (normal), 1024 (hard)
